 [ Artist View] Superposition: Contemporary Structures Where Layers of Time and Space Interlock : Artist Seojin Lee

Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Sculpture at Hongik University, artist Lee Seojin creates   mixed-media works that seamlessly combine sculpture, installation, photography, and  digital monitor displays to reveal multi-layered dimensions of time and space. His practice  coexists with a fluid temporality and  polysemic interpretations, remaining deliberately  open-ended and free from definitive conclusions.

Early Phase: Tension and Suturing

His early works began as formative attempts to suture structural wounds and establish a   flat , tactile tension across materials through the connective 

elements of rigid structural  frameworks .

Career & Materiality

Having actively engaged in art-making since her undergraduate studies in Fine Arts at   Kyungsung University in Busan, Lee has built a solid professional trajectory through  continuous exhibition participation and curatorial projects since 2018. In his structures — where stone, cement, screws, and 

connecting lines organically overlap—monitors serve as  mechanisms that simultaneously introduce temporal disruption and connectivity.

Spatial Direction & Narrative

Recognized with accolades such as the Award at the 2021 Busan Young Artists Exhibition,   he expanded his creative scope beyond individual objects, 

gaining valuable experience in  bridging entire exhibition spaces into singular, organic narrative structures.

Current Practice: Seokgatap & Buddha Series

Utilizing miniature Buddha statues, water tank reflections, vivid modern color panels, and   VR/sensor technology, she orchestrates compact yet intense 

contemporary space-time  environments . Continuing his ongoing Seokgatap  series , he plans to fuse technological  components—such as sensors,

coding, and virtual reality—with the physical materiality of  sculpture to more dynamically expose structural operation and temporality. Within this

harmony of modern hues and physical frameworks, layers of time overlap, inviting an   engaging dialogue at the viewer’s eye level while signaling 

compelling future expansions  and variations.

Artist Lee Seojin organically weaves contemporary materials—such as monitors, concrete,   pipes, and resin—onto traditional motifs like the Seokgatap 

pagoda and Buddha sculptures.  Revealing a state where accumulation and collapse, order and fracture coexist, his  installation structures express a 

fluid, modern temporality rather than a static past.  The multi-layered intersection between digital screens and physical forms opens up  open-ended 

interpretations, initiating an intriguing aesthetic dialogue at the viewer’s  eye level.
